Over the weekend of 26.7.2008 Magen David Adom teams were rushed to treat about 20 drowning victims all over the country.
In five of the cases, the teams were forced to pronounce as dead, the people pulled from the water.
In an additional five instances, the MDA teams carried out lengthy resuscitation procedures and transported the victims to hospital in critical condition.
In some of the cases that the MDA teams came to, citizens and life guards on the beach had already started resuscitation procedures on those who had drowned, and therefore helped in saving their lives.
MDA Director General, Eli Bin said that "these actions prove once again how important it is to take a basic life saving course in the MDA stations all over the country. MDA offers a range of first aid, life saving courses, and calls on the public to take one of them so that they can save lives".
