Purim is fast approaching, but a number of accidents involving injuries have already been recorded at MDA. The victim of the latest of these accidents is a 12 year old boy from Kfar Sava whose leg was wounded by an explosive gun.
Eli Bin, MDA General Director, would like to pass on this message: " I am appealing to parents to prevent their children from purchasing dangerous explosive toys and games which might cause the person playing with them to end up with a serious disability or even a more severe form of handicap. Fortunately for the lad, the fragments injured his leg, but that could have ended in a tragedy had the fragments penetrated his chest."
On the heels of this incident, MDA has issued instructions as to how to take precautions with dangerous toys. Among the directives MDA has issued: the use of a toy gun shooting plastic bullets is forbidden as it might cause serious and irreversible injury to the body. Paper caps and different kinds of percussion caps should only be activated by means of a gun especially intended for this purpose and not by any other means.
Likewise, you must not keep caps in your pocket out of fear of explosion. You must not shoot percussive caps or anything similar in the vicinity of the eyes or ears- out of fear of irreversible damage. Any type of explosive might be a real danger if it is not operated according to instructions. The use of rockets, large flares and a revolving "explosive snake" is entirely prohibited.
