Since September 8th there has been a two weeks international project taking place in Israel, MDA International Youth Exchange. With the generous support of the ICRC MDA in Israel launched a seminar in order to debate and discuss the Global Food Crisis. During this seminar 25 participants from around the world are learning about the global food crisis. The seminar brought together participants from Ethiopia, Uganda, Norway, Georgia, Botswana, Kenya, Jordan and Israel. Five out of the twenty five youth participating in the seminar are MDA volunteers, who were gathered from districts all over the country.
The selected few were hand picked for their known reputation as valuable volunteers in their districts, as well as their ability to speak fluent English.
The seminar provides the motivated youngsters to know MDA and its emerging humanitarian international projects and mission. It combines tours in historical and cultural sites all through Israel and is dedicated for raising the awareness to the global food crisis and youth action for future generations, through fascinating lectures and workshops.
The first three days were mainly about bonding and understanding the causes for the crisis, and the challenges it creates. Tel Aviv and old Jaffe were the places visited during the first three days and combined guided tours and strolling around the city. The participants regarded the tours as "historically amazing and eye opening."
The seminar also includes visiting historical land marks like Ben Gurion's grave, Jerusalem and obviously, learning about desert agriculture, both modern and in ancient times.
In the next two weeks the group will tour at the Dead Sea, Messada, village in the Arava, followed by an additional week in Tel Aviv, where they can explore MDA operation mainly in emergency medicine, blood bank services and visit the organization's facilities.
