a moving ceremony was held in Ramla to inaugurate a special sculpture installed at MDA Headquarters. The unique sculpture was created by Sam Philipe, an Israeli sculptor whose works are displayed in public spaces in Israel and around the world. Philipe was born in Jerusalem, volunteered with MDA Jerusalem, and later served in the IDF as a combat medic.

The sculpture was donated by Dr. Randy Caldwell of Texas, USA. Participants in the inauguration ceremony included the distinguished donor Dr. Randy Caldwell, MDA Global President, Ambassador Gilad Erdan, MDA Director General Eli Bin, CEO of the Israeli Friends of MDA Association Orly Ariel, sculptor Sam Philipe, and other senior MDA officials.

Donor of the sculpture, Dr. Randy Caldwell: “I came here for the first time in 1993 and immediately fell in love with the State of Israel. My children have all been here many times; this is the 58th time I’ve come here, and every visit is a completely new experience. When I saw the sculpture outside, I began to tear up, knowing that I have the great privilege of being part of the blessing of the people of Israel. I believe without a doubt that Israel will stand forever. Israel will never fall, and this incredible organization stands here as testimony to the resilience of the Jewish people.”

Sculptor Sam Philipe: “The meaning of my sculpture is about people, about you. Everything revolves around your dedication to doing what you do perfectly. I must say that when I began working on this sculpture six months ago, I discovered amazing people who truly care about doing something to perfection.”

MDA Global President, Ambassador Gilad Erdan: “Magen David Adom is not only a medical emergency organization; it is one of the backbone pillars of Israeli resilience. On October 7 and in the time that followed, this truth became painfully real. Dozens of MDA paramedics and EMTs paid with their lives while saving the lives of others. They did not hesitate. They ran into the storm because they understood that without Magen David Adom, the resilience of the entire State of Israel would be in danger. Dr. Caldwell, you understand that MDA is not only about ambulances, the blood bank, or emergency response. All of these are, of course, extremely important, but you understand the immense contribution to Israel’s resilience; to our strength, to the strength of our society, and to this country’s ability to face anything. That is why your support is so meaningful. Today we are here not only to express our appreciation, but also to dedicate this magnificent sculpture placed here thanks to you, a sculpture that will stand at the entrance of this national institution for many generations to come.”

MDA Director General Eli Bin: “One of the unique characteristics of Magen David Adom’s staff and volunteers is our diversity. We represent a wide range of religions, opinions, and beliefs, but despite our differences, the solid foundation of our shared activity is the commandment ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ Because in saving lives, there are no boundaries. All of us - religious and secular, Jews, Christians, and Muslims - work together for the sake of others. This year we marked 95 years since the establishment of Magen David Adom. I am convinced that the hearts of the founding fathers would be filled with pride if they could see the realization of their vision. The Rapid Aid Society became the national rescue organization of the State of Israel. From a small station in Tel Aviv, we built an organization rich in experience and international reputation, among the world’s leading organizations. I would like to say to you, Randy, that your support, and the support of wonderful people like you, strengthens our ability to protect life in the State of Israel. It prepares Magen David Adom for the challenges of the future. Your presence here is an exemplary model of partnership in saving lives. We know that you are here for the people of Israel and the State of Israel. Like MDA’s teams, you too are devoted and committed with all your heart to the continued protection of the Holy Land.”
