Helping Wishes Come True!
Two Sixth Grade students from Sde Boker made a special donation to MDA's Wish Ambulance
Shani Garson and Amit Vind, two Sixth Grade students from Sde Boker, decided to open a food stall on Kibbutz and use any funds they raised for a good cause. They baked cakes and cookies, and made lemonade to sell on the Kibbutz.
Dozens of friends and family came to taste the goods. The girls, who collected hundreds of shekels, looked for a worthy cause. They heard about Magen David Adom's project to make wishes come for patients in serious, sometimes life-limiting condition in MDA's Wish Ambulance, and decided that this would be the cause to which they'd donate the money.
The girls visited MDA's National Operations Center in Kiryat Ono, where they were met by the Wish Ambulance staff who shared with them missions that they'd already done in the past, and future wishes that were being planned.
Shani and Amit said: "There are a lot of fundraising activities on the kibbutz, and we wanted to take part too. One of our parents took us to buy cups and baking trays, and we started making the lemonade and the cakes and cookies. That morning we took everything, set up a table, hung signs, and sent messages on the kibbutz groups. People started arriving immediately. It made us very happy to see, and we had a lot of fun. We knew that we would be donating the money, and decided that MDA's Wish Ambulance, that helps sick people fulfil their wishes, was the right place to donate to."
MDA Paramedic Yonat Daskal who is in charge of MDA's Wish Ambulance: "It's very rare to be approached with such a nice idea. Two girls decided to bake cakes and sell lemonade so that they can donate towards a project that helps seriously ill people. Usually helping other people makes me emotional, but this time these two girls made me even more so."
