Victoria fled from Ukraine to Israel - and joined the MDA Refugee Call Center

The life of Victoria Leshiner, a Jewish woman living in Donetsk, Ukraine, was completely normal until about a month ago. Since the fighting began in the country, Victoria has been looking for an escape for herself and her two children – and then decided to immigrate to Israel as returning residents. Victoria's husband was forced to stay in Ukraine due to being a man.

Victoria, who lived in Israel 20 years ago and has a brother who lives in Tel Aviv, packed up her life and moved in with him with her two children - a daughter of 20 and a son who is 12. A few days after settling in her apartment, she looked for work to finance her new life and help Ukrainian refugees.

When the story became known to MDA personnel, they contacted her and offered her a job at the Refugee Call Center that provides assistance and assistance to refugees from Ukraine, which works in cooperation with the Ministry of Welfare and JDC Israel.

About her new life and the professional significance she received, she said: "I immigrated to Israel in mid-March, after the fighting reached the area of our home in Ukraine. I immediately looked for a job in Israel, where I could help refugees and finance my stay here. I arrived at the Refugee Call Center to find an exciting and special world. "

On the value of her work, she added: "I wanted to find a job that could help others and I came to the place with lovely people and great human values. MDA trusts me and loves me and my work, and beyond the organization's great medical capabilities - they have a huge soul. My work here has great significance for me, thanks to which I can continue to help refugees who are in real danger every day. Those who were not there can't understand the magnitude of the disaster - people are homeless, without water, food or medicine. Children see bodies on the street and the planes continue to bomb."

In conclusion, she said excitedly: "Thank God that there is the State of Israel, which helps Ukraine and sends a long-distance hug to the refugees. I wish that peace will return to Ukraine and that calmer and more peaceful times will come."
