Operation "Kimcha Depischa," literally Flour for Passover, has become a tradition in Magen David Adom, and collections are taking place for the 18th year.

As part of this annual operation, thousands of Magen David Adom (MDA) workers and volunteers, youth and adults, undertake to collect food products for low-income families, with the fundraising campaign beginning this week. MDA and the Ministry of Welfare are coordinating this campaign with municipalities throughout the country.

MDA volunteers will stand at the entrances of supermarkets and grocery stores around the country, explaining the importance of donating to the shoppers and arranging collection of food products from them. Volunteers started collecting food products in the afternoons and evenings, and now that they are on a break from school for the Passover holiday, also in the morning. The general public are invited to come and help ensure that low-income families can also enjoy the festivities.

Over the years, MDA has collected many thousands of products and delivered them to those struggling to buy the products themselves. Items that can be donated include:  matzah, wine, grape juice, oil, sugar, matzah flour, chocolate spread, jam, coffee, soft drinks, canned products, pickles in salt, kosher for Passover cookies and cakes, fruits, vegetables and more.

MDA Director General Eli Bin: "This year, as every year, MDA volunteers will make every effort to collect, pack and deliver products to help ensure that families who may be struggling can still enjoy a holiday meal. MDA is an organization whose life-saving activities are intertwined with the lives of the residents of Israel, and our connection with the community is of supreme value for us. We are in constant contact with welfare officials in Israel throughout the year and especially during the holiday. It's important for us to put in the greatest effort to come and help wherever we can - these are the humanitarian missions of the highest order."
