Ashkelon Names Traffic Circle in Memory of first Ambulance Driver
Special ceremony held by Ashkelon municipality to honor the city's first MDA ambulance driver, Vitka Shor
A special ceremony marking the dedication of a traffic circle in Ashkelon was held in the presence of the city's mayor Tomer Glam, MDA LAachish Regional Manager Haim Karadi, staff and volunteers from MDA Ashkelon Station, and members of Vitka Shor's family. Vitka was the first MDA ambulance driver in the city, and was one of the founders and managers of the local MDA Station.
Yishai Kindel, formerly Ashkelon Station manager and a friend of Vitka: "I knew Vitka Z''L from my first day in MDA, he welcomed me when I started. He was a dear friend, a professional and responsible man. His care for others was an example to us all. He raised generations of EMTs and paramedics who all learnt the value of saving lives from him. I have no doubt that this dedication in his memory is the correct way to recognize a man who saved many lives in this city."
MDA Lachish Regional Manager, Haim Karadi: "We are proud to stand at this dedication in memory of Vitka Shor, who was a major part of the history of MDA in Ashkelon, and the first ambulance driver in the city. He managed the station, raised generations of EMTs and paramedics, delivered many babies and saved many lives. We thank the Ashkelon municipality for this honor in memory of Vitka."
Mayor of Ashkelon, Tomer Glam: "We have taken this symbolic step today, in order to honor Vitka Z"L. A great man, who fought the Nazis and the British, and acted to redeem the Land of Israel. He was a man who loved Israel and its residents. He touched thousands of lives in the city, and we thank you for all you did that left such an impression on Ashkelon."
