Medicycle in Memory of Police Officer Killed in Action
At the dedication ceremony, members of Amir Khoury's family met the MDA team that fought to save his life after he was shot in a terror attack in B'nei Brak.
A dedication ceremony was held for an MDA emergency medicycle donated by the Tikkun Global organization through the MDA Friends of Christians Association, in memory of the late Sergeant Major Amir Khoury who was murdered in the attack in Bnei Brak last March. In a ceremony held at the Marcus National Blood Services Center (MNBSC) in Ramla, with the participation of the late Amir's parents Samia and Jeris and his family members, his partner Shani Ishar, the chairperson of the Christian Friends' Association of MDA Anne Ayalon, senior officials of the Dan Region of the Israel Police, MDA Director General Eli Bin, senior officials of the organization and the management of the Dan area in Magen David Adom - the new emergency medicycle that will save many lives has been launched.
During the event, the family members of the late Amir Khoury met for the first time the MDA team, paramedics Hadas Liberty and Daniel Amzlag and EMT Noam Ifergan who fought for Amir's life in his last moments. The family members Amir's partner heard about Amir's medical treatment in the field and during the evacuation to the hospital and thanked them for their work.
The medicycle, donated by the Tikkun Global Organization through the Christian Friends of Magen David Adom, will be stationed in Amir's city of Nazareth, and will be used by MDA EMT Khalil Kahaz from the Gilboa Region. The medicycle is fully equipped with life-saving equipment including a defibrillator and basic life support equipment.
Anne Ayalon, Chairperson of Christian Friends of MDA: "Amir's name will be blessed and remembered when lives are being saved. We want our Christian Arab brothers and sisters to know how grateful we are of their support, and how much we respect them, so we decided to show our love in this way - by donating a modern medicycle, that will save many lives in the future."
Amir's father, Jaris Khoury: "I want to thank Mrs. Anne Ayalon from the bottom of our hearts, for the thought and initiative and the gesture you made for the perpetuation of our dear son's name. Anne came to our house to hug and strengthen and offered to raise donations to donate a life-saving medicycle that will be in MDA service and that will have Amir's name engraved on it. We were moved to tears by the initiative and the gesture and especially also that Amir worked on a police motorcycle for exactly the same purpose, saving lives. Since the terrible attack about 7 months have passed, but the pain is still present and crushes the heart and soul. We think about him every day and every night, every hour and every minute, waiting for him to come home and bring back the joy, the joy of our lives. But at the same time, along with all the pain and sorrow, gestures like Anne's and Magen David Adom, and other gestures and initiatives that were and are still planned strengthen the family and give us the feeling that Amir did not fall for nothing. He fell for sanctifying God and saving people's lives. Thank you all."
Colonel Danny Hadad, Dan Regional Commander, Israel Police: "Amir left us a strong, significant, great legacy, one that says not to give up, a legacy to dare, to win, that there is no meaning and there is no difference between religion, sex, race, nationality - we are all the people of Israel, we are all brothers, we are all connected to each other. The fact that you, together with the Christian Friends of MDA Association, are holding a motorcycle donation event, I think that if there was a place that Amir would want to be, and be on all the time, it is the motorcycle. Not because he liked the tool, because he knew that this tool would get him from place to place very quickly and thus he would save lives and so he did. With much appreciation, much appreciation for this contribution, for the fact that a motorcycle dedicated to Amir will roam the streets of Nazareth, I think this is an amazing thing, the family will also get to see it, the public will also get to see it and remember Amir forever.''
MDA Director General Eli Bin: "Amir z"l is a hero, a reluctant hero, he did not choose to be a hero, he believed that this is the way, this is the goal and this is how it should be done. Amir chose to bring other lives and save the lives of others with his body, in the police it is called striving for contact, here we call it saving a life. The medicycle we dedicate today in Amir's name is going to save lives in the State of Israel, to our great regret when Amir is not with us. I really want to first of all thank you, the Khoury family, for your generosity of spirit, I saw you in almost every news release, Jaris, what roots you have in this country, how much you believe in the education of living together and giving together and it is no wonder that you also had such a devoted son who did this wonderful work, this education at home, for brotherhood, for life together, for a shared destiny, is definitely something that we at Magen David Adom believe in. This is a special opportunity to also say to the people and members of our Christian community thank you very much, thank you for thinking of memorializing Amir inside Magen David Adom, inside the life-saving first responders division in the State of Israel, and I am convinced that this medicycle will continue to save lives in the city of Nazareth and beyond and will definitely achieve the goal for which you mobilized this donation. Thank you very much."
