From CPR to EMT
The baby who underwent successful CPR - years later became an MDA EMT
One Friday morning when Moshe was a year old, his parents woke up to a terrifying sight - they found him in his cot, not breathing and blue. They rushed him to the nearby MDA station in Hatzor Haglilit while performing CPR. When they arrived at the station, Ronen - a then young MDA EMT - rushed out to them and immediately began performing life-saving operations including assisted ventilations. Minutes later, Moshe began breathing again.
At the outbreak of the Corona pandemic, Moshe lost his job as an events photographer and came across a notice about a new EMT course that was starting nearby. For Moshe, this seemed like a sign.
Moshe successfully completed the course, began working testing for Corona and doing shifts on the ambulances in Hatzor Haglilit station. Two weeks later, he had a chance meeting with Ronen - now a paramedic - the man who saved his life. Ronen recognized him immediately and after telling him what happened 24 years earlier, Moshe was overcome with emotion. Today Moshe is and EMT and an instructor, teaching others to save lives.
MDA EMT Moshe Biton: "The decision to volunteer in MDA had always been at the back of my mind, but came to the forefront at the height of Corona. I saw the notice advertising the EMT course, and then everything just happened very quickly. On one of my volunteer shifts I saw Ronen, we looked at each other, but I didn't know who he was. He asked if I knew who he was, and of course I told him I didn't, and then he told me that he saved my life when I was a year old. It was the first time I heard the story from his side. Not only meeting the person who saved my life 24 years ago, but suddenly realizing you work alongside him."
MDA Paramedic Ronen Kadosh: "I remember the incident like it was yesterday. I started a normal Friday morning shift, when Moshe's father ran into the station. I started to perform assisted ventilations and a few minutes later his color returned and he came back to life. Since we met, I'm in touch with Moshe, I see him almost every day. Each time his parents see me they shout 'This is the man who saved our son, this is our saving angel'. They haven't forgotten it to this very day."
