A routine call to a woman in labor ended in a surprise gesture by the family

A Magen David Adom mobile intensive care unit (MICU) was sent on a routine call to a woman in labor in Jerusalem. The MICU team, led by MDA paramedic Moshe Benita and MDA EMT Eli Gertner arrived at the Tziona - the woman in labor's - home and immediately realized that she is in advanced stages of labor, and immediately began to convey her to hospital. While they were still on the way, the contractions intensified and Moshe delivered the baby in the MICU.

When they arrived at the hospital, Tziona thanked the MDA team, and when she was discharged from hospital a few days later, she contacted Moshe and asked him to join them for the Brit (circumcision) ceremony with a Talit (prayer shawl). At the ceremony, Moshe was asked to hold the newborn baby in 'Elijah's Chair', and as the baby was named - Elisha.

Tziona Nachmani: "We were very moved by the MDA team's professionalism during the delivery. Everything happened so fast, the treatment was dedicated and very professional. After the birth, we wanted to thank Moshe for his help and support during this amazing moment. We were very emotional that he joined us at the Brit, and we chose him to accompany us during the happiest of occasions. We were very excited that he joined us."

MDA Paramedic Moshe Benita on the delivery and the family's gesture: "As soon as we walked into Tziona's home, we realized that the birth was imminent. Just moments after moving her to the MICU we delivered the baby and heard its cry - something that is always an emotional moment. Tziona thanked us at the hospital, and just a few days later invited me to the Brit, and of course I was happy to attend. The honor that Tziona and her husband gave me to hold the baby in 'Elijah's Chair' was a huge event for me, and I thank them for it. I wish the family Mazal Tov, joy and health."
