Volunteers Gather to Mark End of Latest Overseas Program
The 180th MDA Overseas Program concluded this week, with volunteers from across the world taking part in the closing ceremony.
Volunteers from countries across the world, including USA, UK, Mexico, Brazil and Holland have spent the last two months volunteering with Magen David Adom. The program, run in partnership with the Israel Experience, is the 180th MDA Overseas Program to be completed. The volunteers undertook a ten-day course where they studied CPR, wound management, ambulance equipment and basic first aid, followed by 6 weeks of shifts across a number of stations, including Jerusalem, Tel Aviv and Ashdod.
In the closing ceremony, led by Ilan Klein from MDA and Keren Anthony from the Israel Experience, a number of the participants spoke about their experiences with MDA.
"It isn't just about saving lives, it's about making a difference," said Eli, a volunteer from the UK who plans to study medicine when he returns from Israel. Immanuel, from Holland, spoke about breaking down barriers, even if language was sometimes a problem. "Magen David Adom finds the way to help everyone," he said.
Many of the volunteers shared that the experience had changed their lives and that they experienced Israel in a deeper way than they had expected. They had met different populations, had come across many different languages, and realized that even across different cultures, that basic human needs are the same.
Magen David Adom is proud to serve the people of Israel, whatever their background.
Thank you course 180 of MDA's Overseas Program!
