3 Home Births in 48 Hours
"The angel on the Medi-Cycle", this is the nickname Adva Mansrov gave MDA medic, Isachar Veiss (24), who helped her birth at home when she went into labor early and did not have time to go to the hospital. It happened this past Sunday at dawn, when Isachar was called to Adva's (39) house in Giv'atayim. Her two children were sleeping in the room next door, her husband was by her side, and she was about to give birth. "Just minutes after I arrived at Adva's house, the baby's head was out, and I told her 'now you need to push and I will deliver the baby," recounted Isachar.
The next day Isachar was called by the MDA First Responders Emergency Dispatch Center to an additional birth in the city he lives in, Bnei Brak. There, he successfully assisted in the delivery of a baby girl, whose mother also did not have time to get to the hospital.
In the same evening, Isachar was called to assist another woman who was about to give birth in her house in the neighborhood of Hatikva in Tel Aviv. He arrived quickly to Netsent Valadav (28), who told that the medic on the MDA Medi-Cycle was able to comfort her and ease her fear of an at-home birth. "I gave birth to my two other children at the hospital. Suddenly going into labor and having to give birth at home scared me, but when MDA's teams arrived I was calm, and I knew I was in good hands," she told.
Isachar Veiss, medic on an MDA Medi-Cycle, told that "the preference is always to give birth in the delivery room of a hospital; it is the safest environment for a mother and her newborn. However, we are trained to deliver and assist women in labor. I am happy that these three births passed successfully, and that the mothers and newborns are doing well. Each birth excites like it is the first and gives a satisfaction that provides me with the strength to continue to volunteer."
