Heroes of October 7 - Hila Gigi

11.03.2024 07:44

One of the immediate - and vital - needs following the massacre of October 7, was the collection of thousands of blood units, in order to treat the casualties

Meet Hila - Blood Donations Coordinator in the northern Blood Bank, based in Haifa. She was called in to work as part of the national response to the October 7th Hamas attacks on Israel. She left her husband and one-year-old son at home, heading straight for the blood donations center. Hila spent many hours collecting blood from donors, reaching a total of 300 in just the first few hours of the war.

"When I saw that the war in the south was developing, I took all my equipment and headed to the MDA station in Tiberias. I understood the need and my personal responsibility as part of the war effort, and wanted to help the casualties. I've been part of the blood donations system for 7 years, and this was the most important blood drive to date. I hope to see more peaceful times, many life-saving blood donations, and to see our hostages return home."
