Lag BaOmer 2023
Hundreds of MDA teams on duty on Mount Meron, at the annual Lag BaOmer celebration
Magen David Adom EMTs and Paramedics spent several days preparing and training for the annual event, that saw hundreds of thousands of visitors who came to celebrate the traditional Lag BaOmer festival. Following the tragic events two years ago, many changes were implemented by the security forces with whom MDA works - the Israel Police, IDF, the National Center for the Development of Holy Sites, as well as other organizations, in order to ensure that highest level of safety and security at the Mount Meron site.
Dozens of specialized vehicles were on standby at the scene, including ambulances, mobile intensive care units (MICUs), ATVs, medicycles, an intensive care bus, the MDA-Hatzolah Air helicopter, and other emergency vehicles, in order to provide a rapid response to any event that may occur. A mobile command and control center with advance communications technology was set up at the scene, from where commanders were able to control the entire event.
A first aid clinic was also erected at the scene, as well as a clinic especially for women. Many Hatzalah organizations from across Israel that operate under the auspices of MDA participated in the event and provided volunteer emergency staff at the scene.
Throughout the days of the complex operation, there were no serious incidents. MDA teams treated 185 people for minor injuries and illnesses, including dehydration and faints, with 35 requiring further assessment and treatment at hospital.
