Joint Birthday Surprise!
On average, one baby is delivered by an MDA crew each day. But one baby shared its birthday with someone very special!
On a February Friday morning, Olga (32) felt that the delivery of her baby was imminent. She and her husband were preparing to leave for the hospital when she suddenly started to feel contractions. Her husband quickly called MDA’s 101 emergency number, and a MICU was sent to their home in Kiryat Motzkin.
When the MICU team arrived with Paramedic Hodaya Rosa, and senior EMTs Avi Abadi and Nehorai Biner, they found Olga in advanced labor. The team helped deliver the baby and after she was born they conveyed Olga and the baby to hospital. In a surprise coincidence, that day was also the birthday of Scott Cassidy from Chicago, who donated MICU 221, that the team were on for that exciting morning, and thanks to which more teams in the Carmel region continue to save lives today too.
This week the team came back to visit Olga, her husband and newborn Mia. Thanks to a Zoom call from Illinois, Scott, who donated the MICU, was able to join the family, and gifted the Paronov family a buggy to use for baby Mia.
“It’s very exciting for me to be a part of this birth,” said Scott from the USA. “I wish Mia happiness and health, and to the MDA team – you deserve a huge thank you. This child is now forever a part of my life and we have a special bond. I’m very pleased that the baby is healthy, and she will grow to be a beautiful young woman, and now every time I have a birthday, I will think of Mia.
Olga Paronov: “We wanted to get to the hospital that morning, but we quickly realized that we wouldn’t be going anywhere because the baby was already about to be born. I asked my husband to call MDA’s Dispatch on 101, but I really didn’t think I’d be having this baby at home, it’s something that only happens in movies. It was very scary, but I felt safe when I saw the MDA team. Scott – we really appreciate your gift to Mia.”
MDA Team – Paramedic Hodaya and Senior EMTs Avi and Nehorai who returned once more to Olga’s house: “It’s very emotional to return to Olga’s home, this time with our hands full with a gift for little Mia.”
