David's Miracle

"Thanks to the angels in white, I'm still here."

David and the MDA EMT who saved his life

David Asraf, 57 from Netivot, felt unwell while at home, lost consciousness and collapsed. His frightened family immediately called MDA's 101 emergency number, and thanks to professional instructions given over the phone, as well as first responders who were quickly dispatched to the scene, David's life was saved. A week after being discharged from hospital, David met the MDA EMT who saved his life in order to thank him.

The Asraf family experienced a night that almost ended in tragedy when David collapsed in cardiac arrest. His family was given initial resuscitation instructions by MDA's 101 Dispatcher San Sadeh Katz while First Responders and a MICU team were dispatched to the scene. First on scene was EMT Maoz Viberman who continued to provide life-saving CPR including four shocks from the defibrillator, after which David's heart began beating again. He was then conveyed by the MICU team in critical but stable condition to hospital.

He was discharged home a few days later. He immediately asked to meet Maoz, the EMT who saved his life. The two met in an emotional reunion, where David was able to thank David for his actions, thanks to which he was able to return to his family.

Maoz Viberman, the EMT who arrived on an MDA medi-cycle: "I received the call at around 2am, and even though I was in bed, I didn't think twice and jumped straight on the bike and arrived as fast as possible at David's house. I saw him lying on the floor with his son performing CPR under guidance from our Dispatch Center. I continued resuscitation efforts, including providing four shocks from the defibrillator until his heart began beating once more on its own. I was thrilled to hear that he recovered and has returned home. To be here today, seeing David standing up and smiling with his family, means everything to me. I wish him a long, happy and healthy life."

David and his wife Sarit were very emotional. "The team arrived quickly and acted professionally, doing everything they could to bring David back to his family. We want to praise San in MDA's Dispatch Center who stayed on the line with us the whole time, giving us life-saving instructions. She and the team's resuscitation efforts helped stabilize the situation. It was very important for us to have this reunion and to thank the angels in white for the holy work that they do, saving lives around the clock. Even after the transfer to the hospital they were concerned and showed an interest in his medical situation. We are very grateful to the whole of MDA!"
