The Life-Saver from the End of the Street

22.01.2023 10:11

Roi Damari is an MDA EMT who saved his neighbor's life!

Ezri, 65 years old, came home from work and told his wife Bracha that he was tired, so was going to have a rest. Bracha suddenly heard a loud noise, ran to the room and found Ezri lying on the ground unconscious. She rushed to get her neighbor, MDA EMT Roi Damari, as well as calling MDA on 101.

When Roi arrived, he immediately realized that his neighbor was in cardiac arrest. He began to perform CPR, and just moments later MDA EMTs Dalia Sapir, Dan Nikolau and Yaron Koren arrived at the scene. They attached the defibrillator, gave Ezri one shock which made his heart begin to beat again, and he regained consciousness. A mobile intensive care unit (MICU) team sedated and ventilated Ezri, and then conveyed him to Beilinson Hospital in Petah Tikva, where doctors continued his treatment.

Several weeks later, Ezri returned home, completely healthy and with no neurological deficits - and decided to invite the life-saving MDA team to an emotional reunion in his home.

Ezri Nagar: "I don't remember the actual event, but as soon as I woke up, I started recovering quickly. All of this is thanks to the MDA team who responded so fast. The fact that Roi is our neighbor is a miracle. I have so much to thank them for. If it wasn't for them, I don't know where I would have been today."

Roi Damari, MDA EMT and Ezri's neighbor: "I was sitting at home that evening. Bracha suddenly ran over and told me that Ezri had fainted. I rushed to their house and saw that he was unconscious on the floor. The only thing that went through my mind at the time was that I needed to be as professional as possible - so I just worked on auto-pilot. To see Ezri in the street, meet him in the store, and especially when I visit his home to see him standing on his own two feet and surrounded by his family, is an amazing feeling. It gives me a great deal of strength to carry on saving lives."
