Saved by a Defibrillator and an MDA team

27.09.2023 14:08

Ahlam, 44, was at home when she started feeling a sharp chest pain. Her husband quickly called Magen David Adom's 101 Emergency Call Center, and the team that arrived, saved Ahlam's life.

MDA EMT Ron-El Israeli, along with MDA youth volunteers Neta Dahan, Elia Alin Barabi and Alexandra Kabiat were on an ambulance shift, when they received a call to Ahlam, who was experiencing severe pain in her chest. As they arrived, Ron-El quickly assessed the situation, and immediately realized that Ahlam was in cardiac arrest. He and the team immediately began performing CPR and gave Ahlam 3 shocks with the defibrillator, until her heart started beating again.

A mobile intensive care team arrived on scene to continue the treatment and evacuate Ahlam to Soroka Hospital, where she recovered.

Last week, Ron-El and his team visited Ahlam at home, but this time she welcomed them with a smile on her face and standing on her own two feet.

"Two months ago, we were here under very different circumstances," said MDA EMT Ron-El Israeli. "You were unconscious, we realized that you were in cardiac arrest, immediately started to perform CPR, and using the defibrillator, gave you three shocks that saved your life. It's very exciting to meet you here today, standing with family at your side, it definitely gives us the strength to continue saving lives."

Ahlam Alkarnawi: "I don't remember much from that day, I do remember that I told my husband that I was feeling dizzy, and nothing more. When I woke in hospital they told me I'd had a cardiac arrest, that I was almost no longer alive. Thank God that the MDA team arrived with the defibrillator, without which I simply wouldn't be alive. This machine saved me. To meet the MDA that treated me is just an incredible feeling. I'm so pleased to have met them while standing on my own two feet."
