Hagar's Life Saved by MDA
Hagar Cain suffered an almost fatal asthma attack, but MDA's teams, from Dispatch to the front line, fought to keep her alive
Called MDA with her last breath, saved from an asthma attack
Hagar Cain, from Kibbutz Nachsholim, was saved by a miracle. While home alone, she began suffering from a severe asthma attack, and using the last of her strength called MDA's 101 Emergency Call Center, where she was connected with Dispatch EMT Ronit Glula.
Almost completely unable to speak, Hagar was able to explain she was having an asthma attack, and provide the name of the kibbutz where she lived. Seconds later, an ambulance and mobile intensive care unit (MICU) were dispatched, but Hagar was unable to provide any further information or the exact location of her home.
Paramedics Avi Cohen and Michal Skvirsky, and EMT Talia Sadeh searched for the house for some time, and then, thanks to some alert neighbors, located Hagar's home. They found her unconscious and with no pulse. After several minutes of aggressive treatment including CPR, Hagar's heart restarted, and she was evacuated to hospital in critical condition, but alive.
A few days after recovering, she contacted MDA and asked to meet the team that saved her life.
"I heard someone speaking with a strangled voice and in great distress," said Dispatch EMT Ronit. "I heard her last breaths before she collapsed, and it was very stressful. I was determined to wait until I heard the ambulance teams arriving on scene. When I heard that she'd survived, I had goosebumps, and I'm so excited to meet her."
"We couldn't believe it when her husband contacted us a few days later and said she was no longer in danger," said Avi and Michal, the MICU paramedics. "It's an incredible thing to save someone's life, we were so happy to hear the good news. These calls are the reason we joined MDA."
"I just want to thank the MDA teams," said Hagar. "The angels in white who literally fought to save my life. Without them, I wouldn't be here today. Starting with Ronit in the Dispatch and battled to keep me on the phone, and continuing with Avi, Michal and Talia who arrived at the scene to save me. I'm alive today thanks to all of them."
