The course – "Pre-hospital emergency medicine" – is a 5 unit course, meaning it is a specialized subject taken by choice, and weighs heavily towards the students' graduation certificate and further college education.
The course combines biology studies, along with advanced pre-hospital medical knowledge and skills. It involves theoretical study, volunteer work, and laboratory research, and at the end of the course, those who have successfully completed all the elements, will qualify as advanced EMTs.
One hundred students are participating in this unique course, across 5 cities, including Jerusalem, Tel Aviv, Modiin, Ashdod, and Nahariya. It combines students from a number of schools in each area, allowing students a scientific course that might not otherwise been available at their school.
Instructors on the course include experienced paramedics with advanced degrees, biology teachers, nurses and doctors.
Students on this course will provide the backbone of the next generation of Magen David Adom paramedics, starting their studies young towards the coveted paramedic qualification.
