Medical Student joins MDA
Volunteers from across the globe come to see and learn from Magen David Adom. Read the story of someone who flew half way across the world to visit Israel.
Brunna Haimenis, 21 years old, is a medical student from Faculdade Pernambucana de Saude (FPS) in Recife, Brazil, some 2,000km from the capital, Brasilia.
She completed a course in basic life support and learning how to use ambulance equipment with MDA, and then joined ambulances and intensive care units for several weeks, volunteering on shifts with different crews. When asked why she volunteered with MDA, she said: "The main reason I wanted to volunteer with Magen David Adom was so that I could experience emergency and pre-hospital medicine in a well-respected organization. MDA is known around the world for their professionalism, especially in the field of mass-casualty incidents."
"My experiences on the ambulances have been the best! Not only am I learning a lot about treating patients and pre-hospital medicine, but I've also been learning about Israeli culture and lifestyle, which is so different from Brazil!"
"Hopefully I will come back again one day and experience Israel as a doctor, too."
