Brand new Medi-cycle saves a life!
Just one day after joining Magen David Adom's fleet of Medi-cycles, this life-saving vehicle saved a life.
Just a few days ago, Yossi Sasson was handed a brand new Medicycle – number 5060 – and started attending calls as one of Magen David Adom's thousands of First Responders. On the following day, just as he was heading to one call, the Dispatch Center called him to tell that someone had collapsed on the street very close to where he was.
Yossi changed direction, and headed for the new call. When he arrived he found a 50 year old male lying on the street, in cardiac arrest. He began to perform CPR, pulled out the defibrillator (AED) from his new Medicycle and attached the stickers to the patient's chest. Within seconds he had given one shock, and then two minutes later, after continuing to perform chest compressions and ventillations, he gave another shock with the AED. A few moments later the team from the MICU joined him, and together they continued their efforts to resuscitate the patient.
After half an hour of CPR, the patient regained a pulse, and was conveyed by the MICU team to hospital, in critical condition, but alive.
For every minute that passes in cardiac arrest with no treatment, the chances of survival are reduced severely. But here, thanks to Yossi's quick actions, and his brand new Medicycle, a life was saved.
