MDA Team Delivers a Baby Girl in the Hospital Parking Lot
While MDA paramedic Natanel Eitan and MDA EMT Dennis Svchenko were inside the ambulance in the parking lot of Kaplan Hospital arranging the ambulance and returning it to service after evacuating a patient, they suddenly heard knocks on the ambulance window and saw a woman screaming for help that her daughter is about to give birth.
"We got out of the ambulance to shout and I immediately noticed that this was a woman who is about to give birth," says Netanel Eitan, the paramedic. Dennis and Nathaniel realized that the birth was in full swing, put the mother in the MICU and assisted her in delivering the baby."
"We laid the woman, Or Simchi, on the bed and immediately saw that the birth was in full swing, we brought the delivery kit from the ambulance and within a few minutes a cute baby girl came into the world. There was one moment of drama when the umbilical cord was wrapped around the baby's neck, we freed it and within seconds she started breathing and crying. So we also breathed a sigh of relief. We cut the umbilical cord while simultaneously calming Or who was very excited. Then, we moved the mother and baby to the hospital staff who were present at the scene". Dennis summed up the exciting experience saying, "It was a spontaneous birth for both the mother and us, we were very excited and happy that we were at the right time and place. For me it was a particularly exciting event, as it is also the first time I have had a birth, which took place in an unusual place and its end was good and happy. I wish Or and her baby daughter health."
Or Simchi said: "I have yet to process everything that happened. It happened so fast. This is my second birth but I will not forget it. I was with my mother right at the entrance to the emergency room and I just could not stop it - the birth just happened. My mother started shouting and the two angels who gave birth to me in the parking lot of the hospital came right out of the ambulance. I did not even reach the sidewalk."
