A Japanese Akita Dog was Hit by a Car and Brought Himself to the MDA Station in Gan Yavne

Kayo, an Akita dog from Gan Yavne, fled his home and was slightly injured by a car.

A few minutes later, Dalia Magidi, volunteer coordinator at MDA’s station in Gan Yavne, received an unexpected visit from a special guest in her office - a curious and apprehensive Akita dog. Magidi called the ambulance crew who assessed the dog and noticed he was slightly injured by a car and had a few abrasions and bruises on his face. They further assessed his condition and discovered a number of superficial scratches.

MDA ambulance crews recalled that a number of children had searched for him moments before, but the children were no longer nearby. Ambulance driver Sapir Axelrod immediately entered the Gan Yavne residents' forum and came across a Facebook post of family members seeking public help locating their lost dog just hours earlier.

The enthusiastic Axelrod called members of the Azoulay family, who were excited and did not believe that the family dog, Kayo, was injured and had brought himself to the MDA station.

A few minutes later, when Kayo sat on the floor and refused to move, MDA personnel offered to evacuate him to the vehicle on a stretche. The excited dog stood on the stretcher and together with four staff members and family, was placed in the car and taken for veterinary care.

About the unique event, volunteer coordinator Dalia Magidi, said: "I was very impressed by the special visit that awaited me at the office. I'm used to caring for humans during the day, but caring for a dog is quite unusual. The dog was adorable and loved being at the station. I immediately noticed that he had probably been hit by a car, but other than small scratches he was happy and standing on his feet. I am very happy and excited that the story had a happy ending. "

Kayo's owner, Omri Azoulay, said excitedly: "When we found out he was missing, we were worried and all the family and friends rallied to look for him all around Gan Yavne. Suddenly I received a phone call from MDA telling me that the dog was waiting for us at the station. We cried from excitement and Kayo was a bit traumatized, but very happy to see us. Today he was already running and jumping at home and completely forgot about the accident or the escape from home. We want to thank the MDA personnel who treated him and helped us a lot, we have no words to thank you. "
