Doctor Meets MDA Team That Saved His Life
Dr. Elhan Elayev suffered a cardiac arrest at home. His family, MDA's 101 Dispatch Center, a MICU team, and a defibrillator saved his life!
A few weeks ago, Dr. Elhan Elayev collapsed unconscious at home. His family immediately called MDA's 101 Dispatch Center, and along with sending a MICU to the scene, the EMT began giving the family CPR instructions over the phone.
First on scene was EMT Eliya Azrad who arrived on a Medi-cycle, followed closely by the MICU with paramedics Yaki Hajaj and Hadas Amir, along with Senior EMT Yossi Naharin. They were very quickly in action performing CPR and using the life-saving defibrillator to shock Dr Elayev's heart back to life. After a complex resuscitation hard work paid off and his pulse returned, and Dr. Elayev was released a few days later from Meir Hospital (where he works as a pediatric surgeon!) with no damage.
The MDA team returned to Dr. Elayev's home in Netanya, this time in gratitude. There was a lot of emotion as the teams was welcomed with a hug, and the Dr. heard the call that was made to MDA for the first time. He also shared his feelings about a tragic day that ended with smiles.
Paramedic Hadas told: "When we arrived, we saw your daughter performing CPR on you and really fighting to keep you alive. This made us even more determined to keep fighting for your life."
Paramedic Yaki recalled: "When we are at hospital, I promised your wife that we would come back and drink coffee with you at home once you've recovered. We were that certain that you would recover. And Thank God here we are hugging and smiling. We walked in to a very complex situation, but the resuscitation that began with your family following the instructions from the dispatch center was the first and most vital link in the chain of survival along with the defibrillator, of course. We're all very happy that you're here withus today."
Dr. Elayev summed up the visit: I don't remember anything from that day, but it was very emotional for me to hear the call to MDA's 101 Dispatch Center, and to hear all about MDA's professionalism both in dispatch and in the field, as well as their drive to save lives. I thank MDA from the bottom of my heart for the amazing work they did to ensure that I'm standing and smiling here today."
