From South America to MDA
Volunteers come to Magen David Adom from all over the world. Meet Maia from Uruguay!
Maia, medical student from Uruguay, has joined the many MDA overseas volunteers who come to Israel each year.
“I live in Uruguay, and I’m a 5th year medical student in Universidad de la Republica. I wanted to volunteer in Magen David Adom to see inside MDA and to experience Israel’s medical system.”
Maia has plans to return home to finish her studies, but this won’t be the last time we see her in Israel. “My main plan is to finish studying in Uruguay, but then I want to come back to Israel to complete my major,” said Maia. She took part in a unique study format to complete the 60-hour course, partially online and with a few days training in the classroom, and then started doing shifts on the ambulances.
“I’m extremely happy with my decision to come here. This is an incredible experience, and I’m looking forward to coming back to study here in the near future.”
