As families across Israel prepare to welcome the Jewish New Year, thousands of Magen David Adom volunteers are making sure those preparations include families who may need a little extra help this holiday season.

Ahead of Rosh Hashanah, MDA youth and adult volunteers have launched Operation “Wine & Honey,” a nationwide initiative to collect food and essential items for families in need.

From now through Rosh Hashanah, MDA volunteers will be stationed at supermarkets across the country, inviting shoppers to contribute products for the initiative. The donated items will then be collected, sorted and packed into thousands of holiday food baskets for distribution to families throughout Israel.

The goal is simple: to help ensure that as many families as possible can welcome the New Year around a full and dignified holiday table.

For MDA’s volunteers, serving their communities does not end when an ambulance call is over. The same youth and adult volunteers who dedicate their time throughout the year to saving lives are once again giving their time to help others in a different way.

The initiative also brings together generations of MDA volunteers around one shared mission: caring for the people and communities they serve.

As Rosh Hashanah approaches, Magen David Adom is proud of the thousands of volunteers giving their time, energy and heart to make the holiday a little sweeter for families across Israel.

To all of our youth and adult volunteers taking part in Operation “Wine & Honey”: thank you for showing that saving lives also means strengthening the communities around us.
