What to do if you encounter a mass-casualty incident (MCI)?
1) Call MDA on 101 – Even if others have already called us, it is possible that you can provide information about things that others have not seen.
2) Answer the dispatcher's questions patiently –The information you provide is crucial for saving lives.
3) The dispatcher will probably ask you questions such as:
"What is the exact location of the event?"
"What actually happened?"
"How many casualties do you see?"
"How many of them are lying down?"
"Are there any dangers in the scene?"
4) Do NOT disconnect your call to the emergency control center - The dispatcher will hang up the call after they finish questioning you.
5) Provide aid to the wounded as best as you are able and qualified to do. We recommend that you take an MDA first aid course and learn how to save lives.
6) Keep yourself and the wounded safe – Avoid dangers and move the wounded to safety. If at the scene of an explosion, do not touch any objects at the scene.
7) Follow the instructions of MDA personnel and other security forces and help them if and as asked. If your help is not required, leave the scene.
8) If you find a wounded person that the MDA teams have not noticed yet, draw their attention to that person.
9) If you have a vehicle nearby, make sure it is not blocking the access path of rescue vehicles.
