Hanukkah Miracle: EMT Saves Child Choking on Sufganiyah
EMT Lihi Gabriellov saved a choking child by performing the Heimlich maneuver, dislodging a sufganiyah. He was evacuated conscious and in good condition
Lihi Gabriellov is an EMT and a student studying healthcare systems management. As part of the program, Lihi was participating in an educational-volunteer project and was at an educational institute in the Dan metropolitan area. During the team meeting Lihi was attending in the teacher’s room, the principal came and told her that a child in one of the classrooms was choking, and asked for her help.
Lihi immediately ran towards the kid’s classroom. He was choking, his face started to turn blue, and couldn’t cough. She immediately recognized the situation as a full airway obstruction, and conducted the Heimlich maneuver until a Sufganiyah (a traditional Hanukkah donut) came out of his mouth. He immediately started breathing and the relief was immense. Within a few minutes, an MDA Mobile Intensive Care Unit arrived, and they evacuated the child to the hospital, while he was fully conscious and in good condition.
“I’m happy I could be at the right place at the right time, and I’m excited I could save this child’s life”, said Lihi.
