Commemoration as a Way of Saving Lives
Donating Blood in Memory of Dr. Thaer Khalil
At the end of seven years of medical studies in Ukraine, Dr. Thaer Khalil traveled to the university where he studied for the last time, to receive his graduation certificate. The trip came to a tragic end when Dr. Khalil was injured in a car accident and killed. He had dreamed of dedicating his life to caring for the other and saving lives, so to
mark the anniversary of his death, his family decided to contact Magen David Adom’s Blood Services and organize a large blood drive in memory of their son. In an event, organized by MDA Blood Services in cooperation with “Yesh Tikva” (There is an Hope) association for cancer patients, 200 units of blood were donated by family members and residents. Over 100 people joined a bone marrow registry, and about 20 people signed an "Adi" card for organs donation.
Khalil's father, Nasser Khalil, said: "A person must do for others. It was clear to us that the way he would like us to commemorate his memory was by saving lives and helping others. I thank the Magen David Adom Blood Services and “Yesh Tikva” from the bottom of my heart, and everyone who participated, devoted his time, and donated blood to save lives. "
