Moving Tribute by a MDA Volunteer at the Memorial Day Ceremony Held for the Jewish Community in Toronto, Canada
Ofir Bar, a 19-year-old first aid provider with Magen David Adom (MDA) from the community of Kmehin, has been volunteering with MDA since the age of 15. In recent months, she set aside her MDA uniform and flew to volunteer with the Jewish community in Toronto, Canada, as part of a gap year program run by The Jewish Agency
This week, during the Memorial Day ceremony for Israel's fallen soldiers and victims of terrorism organized by the service volunteers for the local Jewish community, the story of MDA paramedic Amit Man z”l was shared. Amit was murdered by Hamas terrorists on October 7, 2023, while treating the wounded at the clinic on Kibbutz Be'eri. Ofir wore her MDA uniform for the first time since joining the delegation, took the stage, and performed the song “Nothing Will Hurt Me” by the Knesiyat Hasechel band, alongside a recording of Amit Man z”l singing the same song.
“As part of my responsibilities during my year of service in Jewish communities abroad, I am tasked with sharing the stories of our heroes. As an MDA volunteer, I felt a strong need to honor one of Magen David Adom's heroes – Amit Man z”l. I heard so much about her and deeply connected to her dedication to her patients. I am grateful for the privilege to stand before the Jewish community of Toronto and share her story,” Ofir shared.
