Baqa al-Gharbiyye Receives a Mobile Intensive Care Unit

The Magen David Adom station in Baqa al-Gharbiyye will operate a Mobile Intensive Care Unit (MICU). 

On Sunday, a Mobile Intensive Care Unit began operating at the Magen David Adom station in Baqa al-Gharbiyye. The MICU will provide advanced medical response to the residents of Baqa al-Gharbiyye, Emek Hefer, Harish and the surrounding areas and will greatly help improve the medical service provided by Magen David Adom to the users of roads 9 and 6. At the same time, MDA volunteers from Baqa al-Gharbiyye will continue to operate the ambulance that has operated at the station to this day as usual.

Over 130 workers and volunteers, including around 50 youth volunteers who have staffed the MDA station in Baqa al-Gharbiyye, since its establishment in 2008. The station serves the residents of Baqa, numbering over 35,000 people and the residents of the surrounding localities. The station is characterized by the unique humanitarian activity for the residents of the area, such as collecting food for the month of Ramadan and information days in schools. The MDA Friends in the Netherlands donated the funds used to build the new station structure to which the station moved in 2016.

The inauguration of the new MICU has been made possible thanks to the MDA service improvement process and the collaboration with the municipality led by Mr. Raed Daqa, the MICU is operated by MDA paramedics, enables a wider range of treatments for complex and complicated emergencies and helps shorten arrival times of MDA teams in case of medical emergency.

The mayor of Baqa al-Gharbiyye, Mr. Raed Daqa: "The Baqa municipality considers this step to be very important, which improves the level and quality of medical care that residents receive. A Mobile Intensive Care Unit is essential for intensive care, especially in life-threatening cases. I congratulate the array of volunteers who work for many hours and contribute their time to the company, their alertness and presence and availability have proven themselves and they deserve to receive."
