Do Not Say "It Will Not Happen to Me ...."
Approximately a quarter of children treated in the emergency room, arrive after accidents at home, at school or outside. These injuries are the most common cause of death in children between ages 1 and 14. The children are curious, reckless and unaware of the dangers in their environment. The familiar surroundings can often pose a danger for children and should therefore be prepared accordingly as prevention is the key step to treatment.
Magen David Adom has been operating the "School Hotline" for several years to allow concerned caretakers and parents to receive medical advice for their children and toddlers. Currently, MDA is publishing the "MDA Guide to First Aid for Infants and Children" in conjunction with Steimatzky to provide the necessary knowledge for parents and care takers to prevent injuries.
The book contains safety guidelines for playing outside, rules for emergency assessments and information on hygiene and illnesses.
The second part of the book is dedicated to first aid guidelines for a variety of medical emergencies.
