Teenagers – Aged 15-18 years old
As our function is to save lives, in order to become a MDA volunteer, you have to take training courses in first aid. There are two kind of basic training courses: for teenagers and for adults.
First Aid Responder Course (for teenagers aged 15-18)
The First Aid course designed for training teenager volunteers is 60 hours long. The course covers various topics in the field of emergency medicine, such as basic CPR and CPR using equipment; identification and treatment of patient emergency conditions, cardiovascular diseases; treatment of those injured by trauma; traffic accidents, falls from heights; principles of handling a mass casualty incident; introduction to ambulance equipment and MDA work procedures and more. In addition to theoretical knowledge, the course teaches important ambulance functioning skills such as: performance of resuscitation using an artificial respirator; operation of an oxygen tank; taking blood pressure measurements; use of an ambulance bed and chair and more.
At the end of the course, there are both theoretical and practical final exams. To pass the course successfully, the final grade must be at least 80.
Those who complete the course successfully are integrated in the ambulance fleet of the station. At first they are teamed up with a tutor and later, after having gained practical experience and self-confidence, the volunteers accompany the ambulance driver in his sacred work of saving lives, by helping to treat a sick or injured individual at the scene and by placing the patient in the ambulance bed and supervising his/her condition during the drive to the hospital.
